6th Annual Meeting for DELF-DALF Centre Directors

January 13, 2017 | By francecanadaculture French Language
Conférence de Christian Ollivier

Established for the first time in 2010, these meetings are an opportunity for DELF-DALF examination centre directors to pursue discussions amongst themselves and with the Cultural Service, which is the central management body for DELF-DALF examinations in Canada. These meetings have also been an opportunity for us to present and discuss our development strategy for these certification programs in Canada.

Organized at the University of Ottawa thanks to the partnership with the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, attendees of this year’s meetings also benefited from a presentation by Christian Ollivier, a French researcher specializing in the European Framework for Languages, during which he presented his “socio-interactive” approach to French language learning.

The DELF-DALF continued to expand in Canada in 2016 as the result of the contributions of hundreds of professionals across the country (from 80 candidates in 2006 to almost 10,000 in 2016). In terms of the number of candidates, Canada has moved from its 2013 worldwide ranking of 15th to its 2016 ranking of 8th. Canada is also the country with the greatest growth rate in the world. More than 2000 Canadian professors are trained as scorer-correctors and 95 as trainers (a world record and a unique feature for Canada). Beyond just DELF-DALF diplomas, this network is also a powerful lobbying organism in favour of the European Framework of Languages and the action-oriented approach promoted by the European Council.
