French National Centre for Distance Education: international distance education program (Scolarité complémentaire internationale)

Since July 1st 2014, the French CNED (Centre National d'Enseignement à Distance [National Centre for Distance Education]) is operating a new French language distance education program, called « Scolarité complémentaire internationale ».

Designed for primary and secondary school students outside of France (excluding those registered in French curriculum schools abroad), the French language distance education program allows French and foreign children and teenagers to pursue, in addition to the curriculum of their country of residence’s school system, a French curriculum based program whose scope is reduced to focus on three fundamental subjects.

The goal of this initiative is to create connections to the French language and culture for young expatriates or nationals and to facilitate potential studies within the French school system.

This reduced-scale program allows students to pursue a less restrictive course of study than a complete distance schooling program – meaning a significantly reduced number of assignments for students to submit.

The “Scolarité complémentaire internationale” consists of 3 three fundamental subjects, depending on Grades:

Primary school (Primaire):
Cycle 2 (Grades 0 to 2 – materennel Grande section, CP, CE1): mathematics, French, time & space
Cycle 3 (Grades 3 to 5 – CE2, CM1, CM2): mathematics, French, history & geography

Middle school (Collège):
From 6e to 3e (Grades 6 to 9): mathematics, French, history-geography-civics

2nde (Grade 10) mathematics, French, history-geography
