French Secondary-School Students in Calgary

Branton School in Calgary is welcoming students from the Collège de Saint-Vit of the Academy of Besançon for a dozen days. It is an exchange between the two schools organized now for several years which testifies of a beautiful collaboration between France and Canada.

On Monday, February 6th, Honorary Consul of France in Calgary, Roy Klassen joined Jean-François Belanger, Principal of the Branton School of the Calgary Board of Education at the airport to welcome French students accompanied by Deputy Principal of the Collège Jean Jaurès de Saint-Vit, Christophe Cuenot.

As usual for the reception of the students, Mr. Belanger organized a small ceremony called the "White Hats Ceremony" at Calgary Airport.

Each student received a white cowboy hat upon arrival and must take the oath. Recall that the white cowboy hat is the symbol of the city of Calgary and its belonging to the west.

Mr. Belanger has planned a program that French students should not soon forget. It will be a true discovery of Alberta's culture and its harsh winter.
